Smooth Cayenne Pineapple care

Light

Aim for at least 4-6 hours of direct sun on the leaves. Needs full sun and at least 6 hours of bright direct light for good growth and sweet fruit; tolerates a little shade but crops poorly. Indoors, give the sunniest window or supplement with a strong grow light. If your only bright window faces south, that's perfect for smooth cayenne pineapple — same window any aroid would fry on.

Watering

Watering smooth cayenne pineapple: water when the top 3-5 cm of soil is dry, roughly every 7-10 days. The number that matters isn't the day of the week — it's how dry the top 2-3 cm of the pot feels. A finger in the soil tells you more than a watering app. After every watering, tip the saucer. A pot with a working drainage hole is non-negotiable for this species — even free-draining mix will turn soggy in a closed planter. Smooth Cayenne Pineapple sits happiest at around 40-60% humidity and 18-30°C (65-86°F). Adaptable to ordinary household humidity and tolerant of moderately dry air thanks to its drought-adapted physiology. Average room conditions suit it; extra humidity is appreciated but not essential. If you keep the room above 18 year-round and avoid placing the plant near a cold draught, a hot radiator, or an air-conditioning vent, you have already handled the two biggest indoor stressors.

Fertilising
