Genus guide
Zinnia — 18 species
Zinnia is a genus of cheerful warm-season annuals — including common Zinnia, Mexican zinnia, Peruvian zinnia, and the compact Profusion orange zinnia — grown for their vibrant, long-lasting blooms in virtually every colour. They demand full sun (at least six hours daily) and well-drained soil, and are notably heat- and drought-tolerant once established. Deadheading spent flowers prolongs bloom from early summer through first frost. All Zinnia species are non-toxic to cats and dogs, confirmed by ASPCA, making them an excellent choice for pet-friendly gardens.
