Vriesea is a genus of epiphytic bromeliads from Central and South America, prized for their bold, strap-like foliage and striking feather-like flower spikes — species such as Flaming Sword, Giant Vriesea, Saunders' Vriesea, and Parrot Feather Bromeliad are typical. They prefer bright indirect light and should be watered by keeping the central rosette cup filled with fresh water, refreshed weekly, while the potting medium stays lightly moist. According to the ASPCA, Vriesea bromeliads are non-toxic to both cats and dogs, making the entire genus a safe choice for pet-owning households.
