Genus guide
Spiraea — 23 species
Spiraea is a large genus of deciduous flowering shrubs grown for their arching stems smothered in clusters of white or pink blooms from spring through summer. Most species, including Japanese Spirea and Gold Mound Spirea, thrive in full sun — at least six hours daily — and prefer moderately moist, well-drained soil; they tolerate brief dry spells once established but sulk in waterlogged ground. Toxicity varies across the genus, so always check each species before buying if you have cats or dogs at home.
