Sedum — 27 species
Sedum (stonecrop) is a large, sun-loving succulent genus spanning ground-covering species and pendulous trailers like Burro's Tail (S. morganianum), Jelly Bean Plant (S. x rubrotinctum), and the copper-toned S. nussbaumerianum. Most sedums want at least six hours of direct sun and are best watered by the soak-and-dry method — letting soil dry completely between waterings. Toxicity varies across the genus: Burro's Tail is listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs by the ASPCA, but other Sedum species have conflicting assessments in the literature. Check each species individually before purchasing for a pet household.
