Genus guide
Sarracenia — 21 species
Sarracenia is a genus of carnivorous pitcher plants native to North American bogs and wetlands, including dramatic species such as Drummond's Pitcher Plant, Mountain Sweet Pitcher Plant, and Catesby's Pitcher Plant. They are high-demand growers: full sun of at least six to eight hours daily is essential, and roots must stay in trays of pure, nutrient-free water — tap water is harmful. Nutrient-poor, peat-based soil is required. Toxicity varies among Sarracenia species; confirm the safety of any specific species before purchasing if pets are in the household.
