Physocarpus, known as ninebark, are fast-growing deciduous shrubs prized for their exfoliating, papery bark and richly coloured foliage — cultivars such as 'Diabolo', 'Coppertina', 'Summer Wine', and 'Little Devil' deliver deep burgundy or copper leaves that hold colour from spring through autumn. They perform best in full sun to partial shade, with richer foliage colour in brighter positions, and prefer evenly moist, well-drained soil.
