Nidularium8 species

Part of the Bromeliads & air plants family (Bromeliaceae)

Nidularium is a genus of rosette-forming bromeliads native to Brazil, grown for their dramatic, deeply cupped foliage that flushes bright red at the centre as they approach flowering. They thrive indoors in bright, indirect light — avoid harsh direct sun, which scorches the leaves. Like many bromeliads, they are watered through their central 'vase': keep it filled with chlorine-free water, emptying and refilling regularly to prevent bacterial build-up. Water the soil only when the top layer dries out. Humidity of 60–70% suits them well. The ASPCA confirms bromeliads are non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Nidularium — frequently asked questions

Are Nidularium plants toxic to cats and dogs?

Most Nidularium are pet-safe. Of the 8 Nidularium species we cover, 8 are non-toxic on the ASPCA list and 0 carry a toxic or mildly-toxic rating. Even so, confirm the individual species before trusting it around pets.

How much light do Nidularium plants need?

Most Nidularium do best in medium indirect light. If yours stretches toward the window or loses its variegation it wants more light; scorched or bleached leaves mean it is getting too much direct sun.

Are Nidularium easy to care for?

Many Nidularium are beginner-friendly — they tolerate lower light and forgiving watering. Water to how fast the pot actually dries rather than a fixed calendar and most will thrive.

How many Nidularium varieties are there?

Growli's care library covers 8 Nidularium species and varieties — browse them all above. They share a similar light, water and soil pattern, so once you learn one Nidularium, the rest follow closely.
