Genus guide
Narcissus — 22 species
Narcissus is a bulbous genus of spring-flowering plants encompassing daffodils, jonquils, and Poet's Narcissus, beloved for their cheerful yellow and white blooms. Outdoors and when forced indoors, they require full sun to light shade — at least five to six hours daily — and moderate watering, with soil kept evenly moist during active growth but allowed to dry once foliage yellows. The ASPCA confirms all Narcissus are toxic to cats, dogs, and horses; the bulbs are the most dangerous part, containing lycorine alkaloids that can cause vomiting, drooling, tremors, and cardiac arrhythmia in severe cases.
