Medinilla — 7 species

Medinilla is a genus of tropical epiphytic shrubs native to Southeast Asia and the Philippines, best known for Medinilla magnifica — the Showy Medinilla or Malaysian Orchid — whose cascading pink panicles and bold leathery leaves make it one of the most theatrical houseplants available. It needs bright, indirect light (direct sun scorches the leaves) and consistently moist but never waterlogged compost, with high humidity above 60 percent for reliable blooming. All Medinilla species are considered toxic to cats and dogs, so place them out of pets' reach.
