Macrozamia — 10 species
Macrozamia is a genus of ancient Australian cycads — slow-growing, palm-like plants with stiff, glossy fronds that emerge from a stout, sometimes subterranean trunk. Native to woodland and dry scrub, they thrive in full sun to partial shade and prefer very well-drained, gritty soil; established plants are drought-tolerant and need only deep, infrequent watering. All Macrozamia species, including Moore's Macrozamia and Burrawang Palm, are toxic to cats and dogs — the cycasin toxins can cause vomiting, liver failure, and death.
