Kohleria — 12 species

Kohleria are rhizomatous flowering plants in the Gesneriaceae family, closely related to African violet and gloxinia, prized for their tubular, heavily spotted blooms in red, pink, and orange. They prefer bright, filtered light from an east- or west-facing window — direct midday sun scorches the soft, velvety leaves. Water thoroughly in spring through autumn, allowing the top 5 cm of soil to dry between sessions; reduce watering in winter when the rhizomes rest. Avoid misting the hairy foliage. Kohleria is non-toxic to cats and dogs.
