Genus guide
Iris — 32 species
Iris is a large genus of rhizomatous and bulbous perennials prized for their elegant, sword-like foliage and intricate blooms ranging across the full colour spectrum. Most species — from Siberian Iris to Spanish Iris to Netted Iris — thrive in full sun with at least six hours of direct light daily. Established plants are surprisingly drought-tolerant; well-drained soil is essential, as overwatering and waterlogged rhizomes invite rot. All parts of the plant, particularly the rhizomes, are toxic to cats and dogs according to the ASPCA, causing vomiting, drooling, and lethargy.
