Homalomena — 13 species
Homalomena is a tropical aroid genus from Southeast Asia and South America, grown for its glossy, heart-shaped foliage in deep greens and rich burgundies. It thrives in bright to medium indirect light and prefers consistently moist soil — water when the top inch dries out, and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Humidity above 50% keeps leaves lustrous. All Homalomena species are toxic to cats and dogs; calcium oxalate crystals throughout the plant cause oral burning, drooling, and vomiting if ingested.
