Guzmania — 21 species
Guzmania is a Central and South American bromeliad genus prized for its vivid, long-lasting floral bracts in scarlet, orange, and yellow. These epiphytes evolved under forest canopies, so bright indirect light suits them best — an east- or west-facing window is ideal, as harsh direct sun scorches the foliage. Water by keeping the central tank one-quarter full with fresh water, flushing it every one to two months, and keeping the potting medium barely moist. All Guzmania are listed as non-toxic to cats and dogs by the ASPCA, making the genus an excellent choice for pet-friendly homes.
