Genus guide
Fragaria — 26 species
Fragaria — the strawberries — is a genus of low-growing, stoloniferous plants spanning cultivated garden strawberries such as Albion and Seascape down to wild woodland species like Fragaria vesca. They perform best in full sun (at least six hours daily) and prefer consistently moist, well-drained soil; allow the top inch to dry slightly between waterings and avoid waterlogging. Plants spread readily via runners. The ASPCA lists Fragaria as non-toxic to cats and dogs, making strawberries a gardener-friendly genus for pet-owning households.
