Eleocharis, commonly called spike-rush, is a genus of slender, rush-like sedges prized in aquascaping and pond planting. Eleocharis acicularis forms fine-textured aquatic lawns, Eleocharis dulcis (water chestnut) produces edible corms, and Eleocharis parvula suits shallow brackish margins. All prefer full sun to partial shade and saturated or submerged substrates — water depth of a few centimetres to around 15 cm suits most species.
