Echinodorus, known as sword plants or Amazon swords, are rooted aquatic and marginal perennials native to the Americas and prized in freshwater aquariums and garden ponds. Species such as Echinodorus bleheri, the hybrid 'Ozelot', and 'Red Flame' form bold rosettes of lance-shaped leaves, often reaching 30–50 cm in a tank. They thrive under medium to bright aquarium lighting with a nutrient-rich substrate and stable temperatures of 22–28 °C. All species in this genus are toxic to cats and dogs and should be kept out of reach of pets.
