Dypsis13 species

Dypsis is a genus of feather-leaved palms native to Madagascar, best known in cultivation as the Areca palm (D. lutescens), with relatives including the velvety-crownshafted Teddy Bear Palm (D. leptocheilos). As indoor plants they want bright indirect light and regular watering once the top inch of soil dries out, with reduced frequency in winter; high humidity keeps fronds lush. Toxicity varies across the genus — Areca palm is ASPCA-confirmed non-toxic to cats and dogs, but many Dypsis species have not been individually evaluated, so check each species against the ASPCA database before buying.
