Cryptocoryne — 19 species
Cryptocoryne, commonly called crypts or water trumpets, are submerged aquatic plants in the Araceae family, popular in freshwater aquariums and aquascaping. They thrive under low to moderate light — 8 to 10 hours daily from a full-spectrum aquarium fixture — and prefer stable, slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.0–7.5) at 72–82°F. As heavy root feeders, they benefit from a nutrient-rich substrate. Like most aroids, all Cryptocoryne species contain calcium oxalate crystals and are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.
