Celosia are vivid warm-season annuals in the Amaranthaceae family, encompassing crested cockscomb (Celosia cristata), feathery plumed forms (Celosia argentea var. plumosa), and slender wheat types. They thrive in full sun — at least six hours of direct light — and prefer consistently moist, well-drained soil, watering whenever the top centimetre feels dry. High heat and humidity actually suit them, making them excellent patio and windowsill plants through summer. Celosia (including Celosia plumosa) is confirmed non-toxic to cats and dogs by the ASPCA.
