Genus guide
Anemone — 12 species
Anemone is a diverse genus of flowering perennials spanning buttercup relatives such as Anemone × hybrida 'Honorine Jobert' and Anemone hupehensis 'Hadspen Abundance'. Most thrive in partial shade to dappled sun with moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil; they dislike waterlogging but need consistent moisture through the growing season. All Anemone species are toxic to cats and dogs — the genus contains protoanemonin, an irritant that can cause drooling, vomiting, and skin irritation. Keep pets away from both foliage and flowers.
