Trifolium medium is a perennial clover native to Europe and western Asia, named for its distinctly zigzag-angled stems, and is found in woodland edges, hedgebanks, and semi-shaded meadows. It prefers partial shade to full sun with moist, reasonably well-drained soil and fixes atmospheric nitrogen via root nodules — making it a valuable component of wildflower and meadow plantings. The most important care fact is that it spreads by creeping rhizomes and can be vigorous; plant where spreading is welcome or contain it with edging.
