Callirhoe digitata is an upright to slightly arching perennial native to dry prairies, glades, and rocky hillsides from Missouri and Kansas south through Oklahoma and Texas, distinguishable from its trailing cousin C. involucrata by its taller, more erect habit and finely fringed petal margins. The deep magenta, cup-shaped flowers bloom from June to August on wiry stems that rise to 60–90 cm, and the leaves are finely dissected into narrow segments, giving the plant an airy, delicate appearance.
