How Much Do Plant Apps Cost in the UK? 8 Verified

UK plant app pricing is unusually hard to pin down, and not by accident. Apps publish several subscription products at once — weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, lifetime, plus promotional tiers — so "the price" depends on which one the paywall happens to show you that day. Worse, most comparison pages quote a US figure with a pound sign in front of it. Apple sets store prices per territory as a separate decision, not as a conversion, so that number is simply wrong.

So this page does something dull and useful: it lists what each app's GB App Store entry says, with the date it was checked, and says plainly where the listing does not give enough information to answer the question.

Four things worth knowing before you subscribe

The paid apps are all roughly the same price

This is the finding most comparison pages bury. £29.99 to £39.99 covers five of the six paid apps — about a tenner a year between the cheapest and the dearest, and about a fiver between the middle four. Price is therefore a poor way to choose between them. What the app actually does with your plants is the whole question, and a page that ranks them by cost is answering the wrong one.

Weekly plans are the expensive ones

Several apps lead with a weekly price because the number looks small. PlantIn lists weekly tiers from £4.99 to £8.99. At £8.99 a week you would pay over £460 a year for an app whose own annual plan is £29.99 — more than fifteen times the price. If a paywall offers you a weekly plan, look for the annual toggle before agreeing to anything.

"Free" almost always means free to download

Nearly every app here installs free and gates the features people actually want. That is normal. What matters is knowing which features sit behind the wall: for most of these apps, photo identification and disease diagnosis are the paid part, Growli included.

Three real exceptions. PlantNet has no in-app purchases whatsoever — it is run by a French research consortium rather than as a business. RHS Grow's free tier is genuinely usable because the Royal Horticultural Society funds it, and it is open to everyone: the subscription is separate from RHS membership, and paying for membership does not include it. Growli's free tier does not expire either — the garden plan, weather-timed daily care tasks, frost warnings and growing guides cost nothing indefinitely.

Two apps you cannot get a straight answer on

SUPER Greg publishes ten in-app purchase products on its GB listing — £3.49, £5.99, £5.99, £6.49, £6.49, £16.99, £25.99, £26.99, £39.99, £49.99 — and states the duration of none of them. The £39.99 tier is the likeliest annual plan by comparison with Greg's US listing, but Apple does not say so, and anyone quoting "Greg costs £X a year" is guessing. Greg is a good app; this is a criticism of the listing, not the product.

Vera by Bloomscape appears on a great many "best plant care app" lists, and you cannot install it at all. It had been US-only since November 2020 per Bloomscape's own FAQ, and as of 2026 it appears discontinued entirely — no longer listed on the US App Store (checked directly against Apple's catalogue, 29 July 2026), with app-tracking sites dating its Google Play removal to February 2024. Bloomscape's site still shows a promotional page, but the download links lead nowhere. Vera never had in-app purchases, so any page quoting its UK prices is inventing them.

Where Growli sits, honestly

Growli Plus is £34.99 a year in the UK, or £6.99 a month, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan. That is exactly level with PictureThis Pro and above both Planta and PlantIn.

We are not the cheapest plant app in the UK, and this page would be worth less if it pretended otherwise. An earlier version of our own comparison pages said Growli Plus was "around £24 a year", which was wrong by ten pounds and has been corrected everywhere it appeared.

What the money buys is different, though. Growli's free tier is not a trial: the garden plan, weather-timed care tasks, frost warnings ahead of cold nights, and step-by-step growing guides do not expire. Plus adds photo plant identification, photo diagnosis with a treatment plan, and unlimited chat. If price is genuinely the deciding factor, we would rather say so: PlantNet is free and excellent at identification, and RHS Grow's free tier is the best no-cost option for British gardeners — official RHS plant profiles, no membership required. Those are honest answers, and better than having you pay for something that does not fit.

How these prices were checked

Each figure was read from the app's own Apple App Store listing on the GB storefront on 29 July 2026. RHS Grow's subscription price was taken from the RHS's own page rather than the App Store, because the GB listing shows several tiers (£29.99, £34.99, £39.99) without saying what each covers, while the RHS publishes £5.99 a month and £39.99 a year plainly. Vera's availability comes from Bloomscape's published FAQ. Growli's own prices come from App Store Connect, so they are exact rather than observed.

Where a listing publishes several products without naming the annual one, this page gives the range rather than picking a number and hoping.

App pricing changes more than most. If you are reading this well after July 2026, treat it as a starting point and check your own store — and if you find a figure here that has moved, we would rather know.
