How Much Do Plant Apps Cost in the UK? 10 Verified

UK plant app pricing is unusually hard to pin down, and not by accident. Apps publish several subscription products at once (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, lifetime, plus promotional tiers), so "the price" depends on which one the paywall happens to show you that day. Worse, many comparison pages quote a US figure with a pound sign in front of it. Developers can set a different price in each storefront, so a US price and a UK price need not match.

We make Growli, which is one of the apps in the table, so read this with that in mind. That is also why this page does something dull and useful: it lists what each app's GB App Store listing says, with the date it was read, and says plainly where the listing does not give enough information to answer the question.

How we compared. Each figure was read from the app's own Apple App Store listing on the GB storefront on 29 July 2026, or on 1 August 2026 for Blossom and Plantum. RHS Grow's subscription price is the one printed on the RHS's own page. Growli's own prices come from App Store Connect, so they are exact rather than observed. We have not run a hands-on test of any app, and this page says nothing about which one identifies plants best.

Four things worth knowing before you subscribe

The mainstream paid apps are all roughly the same price

This is the finding most comparison pages bury. £29.99 to £39.99 covers five of the paid apps, about ten pounds a year between the cheapest and the dearest. Price is therefore a poor way to choose between them. What the app actually does with your plants is the whole question, and a page that ranks them by cost is answering the wrong one. Blossom is the expensive one

Blossom is often described as a budget app. On the GB listing its 1-year plan runs from £59.99 to £79.00 depending on which tier you are shown, which makes it the dearest app in this comparison by a wide margin. Read 1 August 2026.

Weekly plans are the expensive ones

Several apps lead with a weekly price because the number looks small. PlantIn lists weekly tiers from £4.99 to £8.99, Blossom £4.99 or £7.99, and Growli £1.99. Paid every week for a year, a weekly plan costs many times the same app's annual plan. If a paywall offers you a weekly plan, look for the annual toggle before agreeing to anything.

"Free" almost always means free to download

Nearly every app here installs free and keeps some features for subscribers. That is normal. What matters is knowing which features sit behind the wall, and for Growli that is photo identification, photo diagnosis and unlimited chat.

Three real exceptions. PlantNet has no in-app purchases listed; it is run by a consortium of French research institutes rather than as a business. RHS Grow has a free tier funded by the Royal Horticultural Society, and the RHS says the subscription is separate from RHS membership. Growli's free tier does not expire: the garden plan, weather-timed daily care tasks, frost warnings and growing guides cost nothing indefinitely.

Two apps you cannot get a straight annual price for

SUPER Greg publishes ten in-app purchase products on its GB listing (£3.49, £5.99, £5.99, £6.49, £6.49, £16.99, £25.99, £26.99, £39.99 and £49.99) and states the duration of none of them. Its US listing says SUPER Greg is $29.99 a year, but Apple's GB listing does not say which UK tier that corresponds to, so anyone quoting "Greg costs £X a year" is guessing. Greg's identification is free; this is a criticism of the listing, not the app.

Plantum lists products from £1.79 to £58.99 under mixed names, including Plantum PRO at £39.99 and "Plant Identification" at £58.99, with no labelled annual plan. Same treatment: quote the band.

And one you cannot get at all. Vera by Bloomscape appears on many "best plant care app" lists, and it is not on the GB storefront. Bloomscape's own FAQ says that as of November 2020 the app is only available to users in the United States. Any page quoting Vera's UK prices is inventing them.

Where Growli sits, honestly

Growli Plus is £34.99 a year in the UK, or £6.99 a month, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan. That is exactly level with PictureThis Pro and above both Planta and PlantIn.

We are not the cheapest plant app in the UK, and this page would be worth less if it pretended otherwise. An earlier version of our own comparison pages said Growli Plus was "around £24 a year", which was wrong by ten pounds and has been corrected everywhere it appeared.

What the money buys is different, though. Growli's free tier is not a trial: the garden plan, weather-timed care tasks, frost warnings ahead of cold nights, and step-by-step growing guides do not expire. Plus adds photo plant identification, photo diagnosis with a treatment plan, and unlimited chat. The full split is on our pricing page.

If price is the deciding factor, we would rather say so: PlantNet is free with no in-app purchases listed, and RHS Grow's free tier costs nothing and needs no membership. Those are honest answers, and better than having you pay for something that does not fit.

How these prices were checked

Each figure was read from the app's own Apple App Store listing on the GB storefront on 29 July 2026 (Blossom and Plantum on 1 August 2026). RHS Grow's subscription price was taken from the RHS's own page rather than the App Store, because the GB listing shows several tiers (£3.99, £5.99, £29.99, £34.99 and £39.99) without saying what each covers, while the RHS publishes £5.99 a month and £39.99 a year plainly. Vera's availability comes from Bloomscape's published FAQ. Growli's own prices come from App Store Connect.

Where a listing publishes several products without naming the annual one, this page gives the range rather than picking a number and hoping.

App pricing changes more than most. If you are reading this well after July 2026, treat it as a starting point and check your own store, and if you find a figure here that has moved, we would rather know.
