Arching Spider Orchid problems — and how to fix them
Arching Spider Orchid (Brassia arcuigera) is generally forgiving once you match its basics, but a few issues come up again and again. Here is what each one looks like, why it happens, and the fix.
Spider mites
Ironically, the spider-mimic flowers attract no actual mites, but the plants do suffer mite infestations in hot, dry conditions. Raise humidity and treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Failure to spike
Requires a defined winter rest with reduced water and cooler nights (12-15°C) to reliably produce flower spikes in spring.
Root rot
A common result of overwatering or a decomposed bark mix. Inspect roots at repotting; brown, mushy roots should be trimmed cleanly and dusted with cinnamon or fungicide.
Scale insects
